How to get a Hosting for my domain?

Well, as you know, the domain should be hosted in order to upload your files on the web. At the time of domain name registration, they will give you a domain of your own and (may be) 2 E-Mail IDs. But, to upload your files on the web and to create more e-mail IDs, you need a space. Space means a hosting server. It is a computer located at the premises of hosting companies. There are mainly two type of servers, Linux and Windows. You can choose whatever you want between them. The difference is that
if you develop your website on a windows based platform, ie, asp, .net,etc you have to choose windows and the php like scripts can run on Linux servers without any effort. It does not mean that only Linux can run php. If you choose Linux, you will get a control panel named 'CPanel' and if you choose windows, it is 'Plesk'.

There are hosting options like Shared Hosting, Dedicated Servers, Cloud Hosting, etc. In most cases, Linux shared hosting is cheaper and easier.
Once got the space, log in to your control panel. In Linux Cpanel, Go to your-domain/cpanel (Eg: www.yourdomain.com/cpanel). There you can Log In with the user name and password provided by the hosting service provider. There are several options you can control. There are provisions for subdomain creation, e-mail account creation, know site statistics, etc.

To Upload files into your hosting account, Go to file manager in Cpanel and upload. However there are several ftp (file transfer protocol) softwares which will help you uploading files without the hassle of  logging in to CPanel and browse through options. I suggest Filezilla for that. It is a powerful software which can help you in transfering files to your hosting server.

Make sure that the file name of your home page should be index.html otherwise an error with code No 404 (or list of files in server) may occur ever after you upload the files.

You may be aware that you can make as many e-mail IDs you like (according to hosting plan) related to your domain. But, the size of e-mails is limited to your total hosting space. ie, if your hosting space is 50MB and your inbox reaches full, then you should delete the old mails. To over ride this, you can use Gmail to receive mails from your e-mail IDs. But it is limited to 5 accounts.

If you would like to know anything more about this, feel free to make a comment on this.
